Free Computers for School Children

VeteranTutors distributes free donated computers to families of schoolchildren who do not have one, and provides free turoring over the internet. Our goal is to encourage students to stay in school until they graduate. We believe that the beginning of middle school is our last best chance to address issues that lead students to drop out of school: lack of fluency in English, lack of facility with Math, lack of familiarity with computers, and an overall lack of confidence in their ability to overcome these obstacles to academic success.

Our method is simple: we do what is necessary to change a student's attitude from "Why bother? It isn't going to work out anyway" to "With this kind of help, I can do anything." We start by establishing a partnership with a middle school that wishes to participate in our program. We survey the 6th grade to determine the number of students who do not have access to a computer at home. We then arrange to distribute computers to the families who need them.

VeteranTutors' program to distribute computers to families of schoolchildren who do not have one is a first step along the pathway to Careers for the 21st Century ™. Using the computer as a channel to tutor the student and train the family in workplace skills brings everyone further along this path.
