Veteran Tutors Robotics
Veteran Tutors' robotics program is designed to help middle school students acquire the foundational knowledge and skills they will need for advanced placement physics and computer science. We believe our task is not so much to teach as to help students actively learn for themselves. These projects help students 'learn by doing' and quickly advance to more interesting experiments.
Projects
The robotics projects listed below have been lab-tested with middle school students:
- Sumo. Students learn to build and program robots that compete to force the opponent out of the competition ring without leaving the ring themselves. Students learn key engineering and programming concepts and how to apply them. This is our introduction to robotics. (~90 minutes).
- 4x4. Students learn to program multiple inputs and outputs then demonstrate their understanding of the key concepts by applying them. (~40 minutes).
- Low-Rider. Students learn to build and program a robotic low-rider automobile that dances to music. Students learn more advanced engineering and programming concepts and get lots of opportunity to experiment and test the results of their efforts. (~15 hours).
